Description

Sheet vintage 2017 BIO

CLIIMATE : The vintage developed clear, net and fragrant scents, a strong acidic structure which guarantees long ageing, and an intense and bright colour. After a rainy spring, the autumn was very hot during the day and cool at night, an excursion that made the grapes particularly rich in acidity, color and perfumes. The harvest was perfect, one of the most beautiful in recent years. In May and June the weather was cool, with good rainfall, while in summer the heat was balanced, not excessive

Reviews and valutations

Giving beauty in the mixed floral and fruit scents reminiscent of lavender, rose petals, violets and ripe strawberries. Full bodied, precise tannins, extremely velvety in the tasting and a warm, enveloping finale whose character and personality will be enjoyed by everybody. Better from 2022.

Ruby red in the heart with a garnet edge. Ripe black cherries and blackberries on the nose, slightly spicy and tobacco in the aftertaste. Juicy and clear red fruit on the palate, with well integrated and soft tannins, elegant and harmonious, complex and with a long finish.

MEDAGLIA ROSSA

Aromas of scorched underbrush, menthol, toasted notes and coffee bean form the nose, while a whiff of violet appears in the background. On the dense, full-bodied palate, dusty, drying tannins accompany prune steeped in spirits, black licorice and coconut before a rather astringent finish. Drink 2025–2029.

This linear, almost racy red is bisected by a beam of cherry, strawberry and currant, with iron, earth and eucalyptus playing supporting roles. Firms up as it builds to the long, expansive finish, yet its lasting impression is ripe fruit. Complex and intense. Best from 2025 through 2043.

Camigliano has completed its conversion over to organic farming, and the wines from the 2017 vintage should already fall under organic protocols

The Camigliano 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso shows a more balanced approach to this challenging vintage. I've always liked the concept of this wine, or of the hidden beauty of the Montalcino landscape, as the wine name "unexpected landscapes" suggests. It is well suited to Camigliano, which is quite literally tucked away in its own magical corner of the appellation with wide horizons and sun-drenched hills. This special selection of fruit (in a 3,800-bottle release) shows a ripe side with dark cherry and blackberry, but it ends with velvety, pliant tannins that are good for near and medium-term drinking.

t deserves to be purchased even just for the wonderful label depicting a village inside a large tree. But, fortunately, the content of the Unexpected Landscape is at the level of the packaging. The imprint of the hot vintage emerges in the aromas of burnt wood and wild caper, wet earth, oregano and mastic, paprika, cardamom, raspberry jelly and black plums. It is broad and warm, but not yielding or over-extracted. The unchanged acidity - a reflection of the balance of the terroir and an anticipated harvest in the first ten days of September - calibrates the imposing mass of fruit and prolongs the spicy finish of pepper and aromatic herbs. It is a heavyweight that, however, moves with the agility of a circus artist.

Wild strawberries, peppery herbs, crushed stone and hints of animal musk define the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso. It’s silky-smooth with a pleasant inner sweetness, as waves of ripe, mineral-tinged berries cascade across the palate. Rosy inner florals, hints of leather and savory spices linger long over a subtle coating of fine tannins. This shows admirable balance and upfront appeal, making the Paesaggio Inatteso an excellent choice for short-term cellaring.
