Camigliano Brunello di Montalcino Gualto Riserva 2007 Rich, with pretty
red fruit flavors accented by spice and floral elements. Though elegant,
there's ample structure and well-proportioned tannins in this complex and
vibrant red. Ends with a flourish of mineral. Best from 2016 through 2033.

GUALTO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA DOCG 2007

“Camigliano’s Brunellos are always distinctive thanks to the estate’s positioning on the lower slopes of the Montalcino denomination in a location prized for grape-growing since ancient times. The beautiful 2007 riserva shows dark chocolate, bright cherry and leather. The oak influences still need time to settle down.”

Beautiful floral notes mingle with ripe red cherry, myrtle, and cedar on the nose. The rich, layered midpalate shows excellent persistence, precise acidity, subtle wood tinges, and impressive complexity.

A delicious Brunello that shoul reach its peak in 20 years.

Almandine with black reflections and almandine rim. The bouquet is elegant, with dried flowers and spice mingled with some graphite shaving and rather leathery fruit that is supported by some bitter accents, and as it opens pleasant greenish artichoke stems and similar vegetal notes. On the palate it's ample and rather languid, with ripe plum fruit supported by languid plum acidity and tannins that have a slight splintery mineral burr and flow into a rather bitter mineral finish. The palate is riper than I expected, more into plum, while the acidity is fairly mineral, and it's a wine that will work for you only if you like the style. If you prefer brasher brighter wines it won't float your boat.

    REFLECTIONS ON WINE:

a wine that clearly showed the power of the 2006 vintage. This was a classic Brunello vintage, but one that is tightly wound and clearly needs a great deal of time to display its finest qualities. This is a beautifully made Brunello that will reward 12-15 years of patience and will drink well for at least another 7-10 years after that (I hope I'll be around then!). (By the way, the 2004 Camigliano "Gualto" Riserva, which I tasted at the winery last month and is available in the US, is a marevlous wine with beautiful floral aromatics and silky tannins. Buy this wine if you can find it and enjoy it while you cellar the 2006.)

CASTELLO DI CAMIGLIANO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2006

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a relativelyeasygoing, light-weight wine best suited to near-termenjoyment. Dark cherries, tobacco, licorice and newleather are among the nuances that are found in thisfeminine, understated Brunello. Firm yet nicelyintegrated tannins accompany the fruit through to thefinish. Camigliano’s Brunello is a perfect example ofthe dilemma that faces Montalcino. This is a perfectlydelicious wine, but in a great vintage, Brunello shouldaspire to a higher level. The estate gave the Brunello2 years in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
